Introduction to Music Together Flagstaff
All children are musical!!
You may be reassured to know that all children are musical
and that all adults are, too! You don't need to wonder if
your child has musical talent: all children do. You needn't
wonder if you have any musical talent: you do! It may be resting
there, undiscovered and unused, but it's there. Music Together
classes can help you develop your talent, as well as your
child's.
In Western culture, we tend to believe that musical talent
or aptitude is given to only a few. We tend to believe that
these "talented" people are the ones who grow up
to be rock stars, symphony orchestra players, or concert pianists.
In actual fact, music aptitude or talent is normally distributed
in a "bell curve" manner, that is, music aptitude
is distributed throughout the population just as talent in
language, math, visual art, architecture, computer engineering,
dance and other areas are. In fact, 84% of the population
is born with enough music aptitude to play in a symphony orchestra,
and only two percent of the population is born with either
exceptionally high or low music intelligence.
Young children's musical growth occurs best in a playful,
musically rich, and developmentally appropriate setting. Music
Together is free of direct instruction and performance pressure.
Learning activities are accessible, interesting and fun for
both children and adults. In class, you will notice that there
is a good deal of child-like play. This is because children
learn through play and experimentation. In class you will
experience music, rather than learn facts about it. You and
your child will be encouraged to enter into activities at
your own comfort level and participate freely.
So, forget your images of perfect performances and music
for the talented few - we'll help you find ways to enjoy music
so your child will catch your spirit and enjoy it, too.
